INFOTEK 2010 Links and Resources

As I promised in my speech last Thursday, here are some of the resources which you may want to have a look at:

Cloud Servers, Storage and Applications

Rackspace Cloud

One of the leaders in cloud computing services. They offer servers, storage space, a CDN (Content Distribution Network) and a lot more. The real plus is the easy to understand and use interface for controlling resources. And the price and technical support can’t be beat.

Amazon Web Services

The more famous of the two but with an unfortunately difficult interface and technology model.

EyeOS

A very interesting Open Source application from Spain. A virtual OS and desktop environment that resembles Windows or OS/X with a great variety of applications and a well defined programming interface.

Statistics

  • “By 2012, 20% of businesses will own no IT assets ”
“By 2011, 25% of new software will be delivered as a service (SaaS)”
    Gartner Key Predictions, January 2010
  • “Today, we’ve got 95% of applications running internally and 5% externally. In five years, that ratio will be 80 percent external and 20% internal.
SandHill Group – Leaders In The Cloud
  • “The current U.S. economic woes will only drive more enterprises to consider and adopt cloud offerings. Spending on IT cloud services will hit $42 billion by 2012″
    IDC, March 2009
  • “58 percent say cloud computing will cause a radical shift in IT and 47 percent say they are already using it or actively researching it.”
CIO Magazine (From IDC Report) October 2008
